Team Manager: Peter Fenton (RED)

It's frustration with Superbike racing's low profile in New Zealand that's spurred Peter Fenton (better known as Red) to invest a large dollop of his own personal money into the John Britten Memorial Race to be held in March 2004 at Ruapuna Park Raceway, Christchurch New Zealand.
"This is a great spectator sport, I can see the potential in New Zealand riders and the ultimate aim is to turn the John Britten Memorial Race into a truly international event," says Red.
He's also proud to be the man behind a new private racing team- the Triple R Superbike Team.
"I want to be the owner of a team that's going to win. At 108kgs it is going to be harder for me to win when the majority of riders are around the 70 plus kg weight range."
A self-confessed adrenalin junkie, Red is also into snowboarding, bodybuilding, is learning kite-surfing, and wants to get his private pilots licence one day. He has a thing for 'toys' and owns a Dodge Viper, a RT E48 Charger, 1948 hotrod Ford Bonus truck, a modified 2001 SS Commodore and a GMC truck (comes with a video and TV player and cup holders that heat up or cool down drinks- essential after a hard days racing) that he uses to promote and transport his Superbike racing team, plus a number of bikes one being a Bimota SB8R and a modified 180 HP at the wheel, Suzuki Hayabusa.
Amazingly, the 36-year old has only been into bikes for four years. Red's previous experience was limited to riding farm bikes on his parents' farm, then one day he borrowed a cousin's bike and went roading for the first time. "I got hooked. It was so awesome." Six months later Red took part in a 'have-a-go' day at Ruapuna Park Raceway and found himself even more hooked, and bought his first bike in May 1999. Certainly not someone who does things by halves, Red crashed the first time he went out on the track (he's known for going out very hard) but has since had plenty of training.
He continues to ride often on the road but does most of his riding on the track as well as motorcrossing every day, unless it's raining. Born in Wellington and brought up on a farm in the Hawkes Bay, Red served in the New Zealand Navy as a weapons electrical engineer. He later became a fire fighter and has lived in Christchurch since 1994.
Given his short racing career, Red has achieved respectable results including a 10th in one of the national races last season and is known to still be improving - hopefully!!
He is utterly passionate about his Triple R team and racing in general. "I still remember the first time I got my knee down, not counting my first off..."
